Technical requirements

Why is it important to follow the technical requirements?

We strive to make your photobooks and other products as quickly and as well as possible. That is why we ask you to follow some recommendations and technical parameters for the files you send us. If all requirements are met, your order will be produced as quickly and accurately as possible.

Spread numbering: 01, 02, 03, …., 10, 11, 12

Mat on the first spread:
If “Endpapers with mat” or “Endpapers, vellum, mat” is selected, the first spread is laid out as usual.
The photo goes on the right side. The mat borders are at least 28 mm on each side.

Vellum:
Height = spread height, width = half the spread width.
File name: “Vellum”. It can contain text or an image.

Spine thickness

from 5 to 60

Photobook layout and templates

We offer a photobook layout service. To use it, make the corresponding choice when ordering a photobook.

For laying out a photobook yourself, we suggest software such as Smart Album, Fundy Designer or Adobe InDesign. We have prepared templates for Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign: download link.

Cover printing

Black print, color print, foil print, white print

File format: best: vector SVG; acceptable: raster (PNG on a transparent background, JPG, TIFF), 300 dpi, 1:1 to the actual print size.

To print your design (logo, text or photo) perfectly on the cover, please follow these 4 simple steps.

  1. Choose your design type. Simple graphics: text, lettering, a logo, a line drawing. Full-color print: a photo or a complex color illustration.

  2. Check compatibility: not every design looks equally good on every material; see the table below.

  3. Prepare the print file: the image itself that we print. You set the placement on the cover in the configurator.

  4. Final checklist: check yourself before uploading files.

Print file

This is a file that contains only the image to be printed.

Golden rule: 100% black. Whatever you ordered (white print, foil print in gold or silver, or black), the print file must be 100% black (K=100) on a transparent background. We convert it to the required color in production.

  • Best format (for foil / text): vector SVG.
  • Acceptable format (for graphics): raster (PNG on a transparent background, JPG, TIFF).
  • Quality (for raster): 300 dpi, 1:1 to the actual print size.
  • Fonts (for vector): all fonts must be converted to outlines.
  • Exception: if you order full-color printing (a photo), the file must be in sRGB.

Final checklist

  • My design suits the selected material (step 2).
  • I have prepared the “Print file”.
  • It is 100% black (for foil or white print).

How to use the SVG template

  1. Open the downloaded .svg file in Photoshop, Illustrator or another editor.
  2. Create your design on new layers BELOW the template layer so you can see all the guides.
  3. When you're done, hide or delete the guides layer.
  4. Save the finished artwork as JPEG: 300 dpi resolution, sRGB color profile, 8 bits.

Important notes

  • If your background image should reach the very edge of the cover (full bleed), be sure to stretch it over the whole artwork area, including the wrap areas. This ensures there are no white strips on the cover edges after folding.
  • Keep within the inner safe area of 10 mm from the cover edge.
  • Hinge area: next to the spine (left and right) is the cover hinge area — Classic Photobook — 16 mm, Digital Print Photobook — 25 mm. Don't place text or important details in this area.
  • Center important elements, keeping all safe margins from the fold lines.

The wrap area is 15 mm on each side. Do not place important design elements or photos in this area.

Stamping die

File format: a vector SVG file or, if you cannot prepare a vector, an image (PNG on a transparent background, JPG, TIFF) at maximum size and quality.

You also need to specify the desired width and height in millimeters.

Photo prints and photo magnets

Prepare the file at the size of the selected format. If the file is a different size, we will crop it at our discretion and prepare it for an extra fee. You can add this service to your order. We do not do color or exposure correction, only technical file preparation.
